HYPNOTHERAPY

Let's See What We Have Here

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind and we all go into a hypnotic state every day, e.g. when we go into a 'daydream' or totally involved in a book and we are completely oblivious to the outside world - we do not hear someone talking to us or see them waving their arms around trying to attract our attention. It is this state that allows us to communicate directly with the unconscious mind, which is a vast untapped reservoir of under-utilised strength and knowledge. This is like the iceberg, just a little showing above the water and over 90% of it hidden below. We experience such a state just as we go to sleep or wake up. Hypnosis is a very pleasant state of deep relaxation whereby you can access your inner resources. Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis for the treatment or relief of somatic and psychological symptoms. Once you are in a state of hypnosis you are given positive and beneficial suggestions direct to the unconscious mind, or you may be encouraged to work out the best route for you by plotting the stages required to attain your goal. The approach or techniques used depends on the individual and the condition being treated. These benefits are instant.

You can be hypnotised so long as you use all your powers of Intelligence, Imagination and Concentration and allow yourself to let go of this reality. It is impossible get 'stuck in hypnosis' and 'never wake up' because you could come out of hypnosis any time, should you wish, like any sleep. You take yourself into a deeply altered state of consciousness similar to that 'dozy' feeling we all have before normal sleep.

Hypnosis is to empower and give you more control of your life. You cannot be made to say or do anything you do not want to or is against your normal morals, but you will change your Mind Set, delete the problem troubling you and achieve your goals.

The moment you walk through my door you have already made a commitment to change, you have decided that those things that once troubled you in the past will trouble you no more, and that you want to enter a hypnotic state, not now but later, to create those changes.

Hypnotherapy and Children

Children are natural hypnotic subjects, their imaginations are so fertile so it is relatively easy to bring about change. They usually take this change in their stride and it is the parent who seems to notice that the nails are not being chewed, the bed is dry, they stay in their own bed all night they no longer need to take the 'blanket' everywhere and they have stopped sucking their thumb. (It is usually the parent who actually sees the child's behaviour as a problem in the first place). The approach is very informal and sessions shorter and more frequent than with adults, there are often 'homework' exercises to be completed between sessions. The approach used is the one by Olness and Kohen with personal adaptations. Many hypnotic sessions with children appear to not use hypnosis at all but the child is still completing the work required.

What can be treated by Hypnotherapy?

Fears, phobias and anxieties - animals, insects, etc., flying, exam nerves, panic attacks, general anxiety, claustrophobia, agoraphobia, dentists and many more

Unwanted habits - nail biting, bed-wetting, smoking, substance abuse, eating disorders, compulsive behaviours, and many more

Lack of confidence - overcoming shyness, public speaking, job interviews, self-worth/esteem/image, and many others

Physiological problems - IBS, PMT, migraine, asthma, muscular tension, pain control, coping with severe/terminal illness and many more

Emotional problems - unresolved issues - past and present, guilt, anger, resentment, and many more

One of the techniques used in this treatment is known as Neuro Associative Conditioning or NAC for short. With this treatment a strong neurological change is effected within the patient’s body by the thoughts instilled into their minds.  It is this change in their neurological behaviour as a result of the original thoughts in their mind, which makes the treatment so successful.

A very similar technique was demonstrated on Paul McKenna’s Network First programme, which was broadcast on ITV during Spring 1995.  On this 60 minute documentary, we were clearly shown that after a therapy session of about 60 minutes, a female patient, once scared of flying, not only flew in an aeroplane, but was relaxed and happy whilst doing so.  A man once scared of spiders was happy to let a furry looking tarantula spider walk all over his palms.  And a woman, once scared of heights, successfully completed a bungee jump from a great height after only one treatment session.

The same week on Central TV’s Friday Night late show “Central Weekend Live”, we were treated to a discussion on this treatment method and the network first programme.  Live on TV we saw another man, once petrified of spiders, now able to handle a tarantula after just a brief treatment session with the therapist responsible for all these dramatic sounding case studies, Mr Michael Breen, a good friend of Mr Paul McKenna, who made the Network First programme.

Using NAC treatment, can also stop people from smoking, over eating and other bad habits as well as curing fears and phobias.

The the mind bases everything in life on how much pain or pleasure it causes the person to do or not to do that particular thing.  So for example, if a person’s mind has stored memories which make smoking seem pleasurable, e.g. the person has stored associations between smoking and relaxing etc. and as such, it becomes hard to stop smoking due to the pleasurable, neurological associations the person has made in their mind and body with direct regards to the action of smoking.

So obviously, if enough painful neurological associations were to be programmed into a mind and body with regards to smoking then it will become an automatic reflex action NOT to smoke, as it would be too painful to the person to smoke due to the neurological associations made between the mind and body by NAC treatment. So to stop over-eating you’d have to create enough neurological links between the patients mind and body to make it painful for them to overeat and very pleasurable for them not to overeat.  Whereas their present behavioural patterns show they are associating pain with not eating and pleasurable associations with eating.

NAC along with Neuro-Linguistic Programming used in hypnosis form the basis of Complete Mind Therapy*, which one of the most effective systems ever developed for fast change. However, Richard has taken CMT further and created Rapid Mind Therapy(TM)

Richard is highly skilled in these life changing and enhancing techniques. Please be aware these sessions are very intense and are much more pro-active than normal hypnosis.

(Be warned these sessions are very powerful and result in massive mind shifts for most people. For some this cause a great sense of eleation but for others it may leave them emotionally disorientated for a short time after the session whilst their conscious minds catches up with the tremendous shifts in the unconscious).

Hypnotic Regression

Hypnosis is an extremely effective way of assisting a patient to enter a state where they can unlock and recall 'forgotten' memories. This is very useful if someone has repressed, (blocked out), painful or traumatic memories, and their way forward is to deal with these issues. Regression may bring back painful emotions to the conscious mind and patients must be aware of this before treatment begins and regression is undertaken.

Regression can also be used to trace where someone accidentally put down a valuable object that is now lost, in eyewitness testimony, remember the name of long lost friends in a school photograph and many other incidents too.

Hynoesitherapy - Hypno-anaesthesia

I am one of very few practitioners trained in the use original form of this therapy, Noesitherapy. It has been the subject of a BBC 2 Horizon documentary and several other TV programmes. Patients are seen undergoing major surgery without conventional anaesthetic, they are totally awake and feel no pain. There is little bleeding, they recover quickly and many walk out of the operating theatre.

The therapy is based on the Vagal Response - the exact opposite of the ‘Fight or Flight’ response. In the Vagal State the body can control its pain easily as it blocks the signals from the nociceptors, giving dramatic pain relief.

Noicitherapy is excellent for treating both acute and chronic pain, including those due to life threatening diseases. It should work for everyone but if you are not able to grasp, or do not want to use the technique then there are the following therapies that can be used. Most people take several sessions to fully master the technique.

There are even fewer practitioners who combine Hypnosis and Noicitherapy to form a more potent form of pain control Hypnoesitherapy. This is sometimes mastered in one power session but some people need a 'booster session'.

Once you have learned this technique it is possible to control any pain for the rest of your life. Some people ask if the technique takes away all pain - well 'Yes' and 'No'. You will still feel normal pain as it only takes away the pain you wish to eliminate.

What happens during a consultation?

The first thing is obviously why you are visiting me, to make sure what you require is possible using hypnosis. During this first session hypnosis is explained in detail and I will ask if you wish to proceed with hypnotherapy. If yes, you will then be put into a relaxed state and asked to perform a task - this will let me know how good a hypnotic subject you are likely to be. Some people go much deeper than others, and everyone can be hypnotised. This has a bearing on how long your therapy course may last. (So, it is in your interest to allow yourself to go quickly into a deeper trance). After this your treatment will begin. Elements of other therapies may be used, especially NLP and NAC techniques.

All persons under sixteen years of age must be accompanied by a parent/guardian or no therapy will be undertaken. I may ask for proof of age if I am not satisfied that someone is sixteen years old.

Richard also practices a special Hypno-relaxation Holistic massage and Hypno Healing.

If you want the ultimate Hypno-Healing Experience then you need to have Experiensis Therapy(TM).
