REFLEXOLOGY

Versions of Reflexology appear to go back some 5,000 years, but the modern version originates from Zonal Therapy created in1902. Dr. William Fitzgerald noticed that the pain of operations could be reduced in certain parts of the body if specific areas of the foot had

pressure applied to them. Further work was conducted by Eunice Ingham and the modern form of therapy was eventually born.

Reflexologist are trained in the discipline of 'body zone mapping', and the different areas of the feet and hands that correspond to the different body systems and organs. The big toe corresponds to the head, while the rest of the toes represent the sinuses and lungs are worked on by massaging the balls of the feet. By applying alternating pressure to the foot the Reflexologist can relieve blockages or congestion in the energy flow to the various parts of the body. It stimulates blood circulation, lymphatic action and the elimination of toxins.

Reflexology is Holistic as in a single session the whole body can receive therapy - by some it is regarded as a science, by others an art, by me therapeutic and extremely enjoyable.

What happens during a consultation?

The first session involves a detailed assessment followed by the initial treatment. For this all footwear is removed, and the patient will sit in a comfortable chair or lay on a couch. The therapy involves working both feet in turn by using massage and gentle alternating pressure.

If the feet are tender due to illness or an accident/injury then the hands may be worked on as an alternative.

Most people have 5-7 sessions. We have a very strong commitment to patient aftercare. With this in mind, after your course of treatment, you will be given an appointment for six weeks time for a check-up and 'tweeking' if required. The receptionist will then make an appointment for six months time for another precautionary check to sort out problems before they get chance to become serious again. (Rather like the six month check given by dentists).
