What is “Whole Body Holistic Massage”?

Whole body holistic massage Richard Wain Dartford

Whole body holistic massage. This not just a physical process it include, the mind as well as the body.

It may include all forms of massage techniques, along with healing therapies to enhance personal awareness of the mind-body connection. This allows the client to develop a relationship with their own body and gain a sense of empowerment with its processes.

The body holds historical emotions and other pent up problems, people may not even be aware that this is there. I have had the experience of a client spontaneously crying during a standard massage for no apparent reason. It ordinarily happens when emotions get triggered as certain areas of the body are treated.

When a massage therapist has been trained to understand the mind-body connection they can help you make sense of why sometimes tears appear for no apparent reason. Or why you can become sad when there is no obvious connection to what is going on around you. I can help you bring consciousness awareness to negative physical behaviours, (e.g. chronically tight shoulders or tension headaches).

It is possible that you have seen a remedial massage therapist, chiropractor or osteopath for a painful neck. And it has worked  but after a short time it returns. A holistic therapist can help you to connect with the root psychological cause and deal with it.

Our emotions are sensations felt throughout our whole body. Think about such feelings such as anger, fear, shame and joy. Each has a physical response and experience due to the situation you are in.

Our bodies are a physical definition of our conscious and unconscious beliefs about our self. If you believe you are a confident, outgoing person, you will physically carry yourself in a certain way. Your muscles will show a pattern that will show as a particular appearance to other people. However; if you believe yourself to be insignificant and you have low self-esteem you will look very different. Your  body posture and muscle patterning will be very different.

So as a holistic massage therapist when I touch you, I am touching your view of yourself and the beliefs that maintain that view. That view is the product of all you have experienced in your life so far. Meaning that when I massage you, I am in touch with who you are now and all your personal history as well.

Your mind will be massaged as well as your body.

Body Image

I have been around a long time and I have worked in just about every shape and size body there is. We are physical entities. But in the West we have a culture that teaches us to be ashamed of our body – its size, shape and its functions.  We have been taught by our families, friends, advertising and other media, partners that our bodies are not good enough. Our biggest critic though is our-self.

My role as a holistic massage therapist is simple –  enabling you to live fully in your mind and body. That’s it!

What Parts of My Body Will Be Massaged in a Whole Body Holistic Massage?

For women a typical holistic full body session will include work on your back, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, legs and feet. Stomach* and buttocks# are optional extras, (there is no extra charge for having them done).

For men a typical holistic full body session will include work on your back, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, legs and feet. Stomach*, chest and buttocks# are optional extras, (there is no extra charge for having them done).

*If you have tension in your stomach due to anxiety or stress you may need your abdomen worked on.

#Many people find having these large strong muscles massaged very relaxing. As it releases a lot of tension in the lower back, sacrum and legs.

There is NO Set Recipe for a Holistic Massage

I often say I massage a person not a body. I have had massages in spas or salons and they are done by therapists who are following a timed process – a recipe. As far as relaxing massages go they are perfectly adequate. I have asked the same therapist for a whole body or holistic massage on different occasions and got an almost identical one to a standard massage.

These therapists are not attuned. By that I mean attuned to the needs of the client and not attuned to the energies of the client. Fundamental to your holistic massage is my ability to assess your needs – physical, mental and emotionally. I then adapt and respond to your unique needs and customise your treatment accordingly.

This not just a biomechanical quick fix. It is a whole mind-body experience. It will involve any of the following:

  • Massage – all types
  • Reiki, Chi Gung or Intuitive Healing
  • Chakra work or Kundalini
  • Spirituality
  • Mind Therapy
  • Psychoneuroimmunology
  • Stress management
  • Pain management
  • Dispersal of negative triggers – replaced with positive tactile anchors
  • plus other modalities.

Every session will be different – remember there is no recipe to follow.

Usually the massage will be relaxing and silent but you are allowed to speak to me. You can let me know if you can feel what is happening inside with the energy work and give me feedback. It is useful for me to have verbal as well as physical feedback from your body. If you want me to work more on a particular area let me know.

Please do not pay for your session until we have booked your appointment in. Sessions are 60 or 90 minutes.
